KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT

Here are towing terms and definitions that’ll help you walk into any hauling situation with confidence.

¿QUÉ ES LA CAPACIDAD DE REMOLQUE MÁXIMA?

The Maximum Towing Capacity is the maximum weight that can safely be towed by a vehicle.

GVWR

The Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) is the maximum loaded weight of your vehicle—so, the weight of the vehicle and all cargo and passengers inside of it.

GCWR

The Gross Combination Weight Rating (GCWR) is the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating—the weight of your vehicle, passengers and cargo plus the weight of your loaded trailer.

PESO DE LA LENGÜETA

The Tongue Weight is the downward pressure of the trailer tongue on the hitch ball. It’s the weight that your towed items are applying to the hitch of your truck.

CAPACIDAD DE REMOLQUE CON Y SIN FRENOS

Some trailers come with their own brakes that you can hook up to your vehicle’s battery. Braked Towing Capacity is how much your vehicle can tow when your trailer has its own brakes. For the record, you can haul more if the trailer has its own brakes.

Unbraked Towing Capacity is how much your vehicle can tow when the trailer is relying on your brakes.

CUTTING-EDGE TOWING TECH

High-tech towing features help ensure that your Dodge vehicle can live up to its full potential while offering you added peace of mind.

HAUL LIKE HELL WITH DURANGO

Discover more about how the Dodge Durango can meet and exceed your towing needs.

The towing capacity of a vehicle will depend on axle ratio and the vehicle's specific configuration. Most vehicles equipped with a 5.7L HEMI® V8 engine can pull campers ranging from midsize travel trailers (20-26 feet) up to large, fully loaded trailers.

Trailer Tow Group IV is an available towing package for 2026 Dodge Durango GT HEMI®, R/T 392 and SRT® Hellcat models. This available package features towing technology upgrades to help enhance your safety and security as you haul.

Available on 2026 Dodge Durango HEMI® V8 models, the Tow ‘n Go Package features:

20x10-Inch Satin Carbon Wheels, Black Brembo Brake Calipers, a Bilstein® Active Damping High-Performance Suspension, an Electronic Limited Slip Rear Differential, Pirelli® Scorpion™ Zero Run-Flat 295 Tires, 7-and-4 Pin Harness, Performance Fender Flares, Configurable Drive Modes (Sport, Track, Tow, Snow), Active On Demand All-Wheel-Drive, a Class IV Trailer Hitch, Integrated Trailer Brake Control, Active Noise Canceling and Automatic Headlamp Leveling and High-Performance Exhaust.

The 2026 Dodge Durango offers two available towing packages, the Tow ‘n Go Package, available on 2026 Dodge Durango GT HEMI® V8 models, and the Trailer Tow Group IV available on all Durango models. Each package offers different available features to help enhance your vehicle’s towing capability.

No, not all 2026 Dodge Durango models come with a trailer hitch. Specific available packages (like the Trailer Tow Group IV or Tow 'n Go Package) include a factory-installed Class IV receiver hitch, wiring harness and enhanced cooling, however many base models do not come with a hitch pre-installed.

To determine if your Dodge Durango has a factory tow package, check for a 7-pin and 4-pin wiring connector near the hitch, look for a rear bumper hitch cover with a small, rounded bulge, or check your window sticker for "Trailer Tow Group IV" or "Tow 'n Go".

You can add towing features after purchase but a towing package must be selected at the time of purchase. Many towing packages are available from Mopar® with the help of your local dealer.

Yes, the Dodge Durango features a dedicated Tow Mode (sometimes a "Towing" Mode in SRT® models) that optimizes transmission performance, enhances shift logic and improves control when pulling heavy loads

The main difference between a Class III and Class IV hitch is towing capacity, with Class III typically handling up to 8,000 pounds for midsize loads, while a Class 4 offers significantly more, rated for up to 10,000 pounds and often used for large campers and boats, both generally using a standard 2-inch receiver, with Class IV being the next step up in heavy-duty towing.
